New Vernon BC SPCA Website Design
November 24, 2008

I just completed the new website design for the Vernon & District branch of the BC SPCA and it is now live. This project truly was an honour and joy to work on. I collaborated with Scratchpad Creative Inc. to produce a user-friendly, beautiful and inviting website that will serve the Vernon SPCA better by allowing them to broadcast more information to the public regarding their current activity, news, and events. More importantly the new website will help the local community connect with the Vernon SPCA more efficiently, enabling them to learn more about how they can lend a helping hand. Scratchpad Creative and I proudly donated our time and skills to make this new website a success.

The Beauty of Pro Bono: BC SPCA Animals Benefit
November 16, 2008

I have done pro bono graphic design work for the BC SPCA Vernon & District Branch since summer 2007. I am currently working on several projects including:
  • quarterly newsletters which I have redesigned with a new look and layout;
  • newspaper advertisements;
  • signage;
  • posters;
  • Christmas cards;
  • new website design
However, I feel one of the most important graphic design projects I have worked on so far is the colour-code system I created to help potential adopters find their ideal match for a new furry friend.

New Photoshop Tutorial: Worn Photo Edges Effect
October 01, 2008

I looked everywhere for a tutorial on how to make a photo look weathered and aged with worn edges. I couldn’t find anything so here’s how I created a worn edge look in Photoshop. I took this an extra step further by adding sepia tone and a grainy texture; however, you can skip these two steps if you wish to keep the colour.

New Poster Design & Illustration: The “Rock n’ Roll Fur Ball”
August 17, 2008

One of my favourite pro-bono projects this summer has been creating the promotional poster and corresponding ticket for the “Rock n’ Roll Fur Ball”, an annual fundraising gala presented by The Kings and the Vernon & District BCSPCA. I started by sketching out a quirky cat and dog dancing and then converted that sketch to a vector illustration. The theme for the dance is Rock n’ Roll and we’re hoping for a large turnout for this highly entertaining fundraiser. If you are interested in this event or others held by the BCSPCA, check out their “Upcoming Events” listing at: http://spca.bc.ca/vernon/.

Winner of the Lake Country Chamber of Commerce Telephone Directory Cover Competition!
July 3, 2008

Earlier this year I entered a design competition to create the cover of the Lake Country Chamber of Commerce Telephone Directory. The theme was “life in Lake Country” and I chose a theme that honoured life, both past and present, in Lake Country. A little while after I submitted my entry and the contest closed, I received an announcement that my entry won the contest and that my design would become the cover of the 2008 directory.

I am honored to win this competition and especially excited about winning my first design competition that I have entered since elementary school. Back in the day, my elementary school hosted a school-wide challenge to design the school mascot logo. I took up the challenge and my logo proposal for the “Riverview Roadrunners” won the majority of the students’ votes. OK, so maybe there aren’t too many (if any) roadrunners in northern British Columbia but we certainly acted like roadrunners, tearing up a trail wherever we went, outrunning and outwitting our competitors even to this day.
